About the TCHH Score
The TCHH Score is our 1–10 rating of every happy hour in the directory. It is calculated automatically from each venue’s actual data — hours, specials, and amenities — using the exact same formula for every venue, and it updates any time that data changes.
The score can’t be bought
Venues can pay for larger listings and extra features on this site, but payment never changes a TCHH Score — not by a single decimal. Paid placement affects where a venue appears on a page; the score itself is computed only from the venue’s real happy hour data. This is permanent site policy.
How it’s calculated
Five components, equally weighted at 2.0 points each, for a maximum of 10.0:
Duration
How long the happy hour runs. A 4+ hour happy hour earns full points; shorter windows scale linearly. If hours differ by day, we use the average.
Frequency
How many days per week the happy hour runs. Every day = full points; 2 days a week ≈ 0.6 points.
Deal breadth
Drink specials only earn half the points; venues with both drink AND food specials earn full points.
Deal value
How deep the discounts are, calculated automatically from the specials listed. Half-price, 2-for-1, and free items score at the top; dollars-off and low prices score high; when pricing isn’t listed, the venue gets the benefit of the doubt. Our team may occasionally adjust this component during verification.
Amenities
Patio, dog-friendly, parking, live music, and kid-friendly each add 0.4 points, up to the 2.0 cap.
How a venue can raise its score
Because the score comes straight from the data, every point has a clear path. Here’s what moves it:
Tell us what we’re missing
The single fastest way to raise a score. We calculate only from the information we have — if your happy hour runs longer, more days, or includes food specials or amenities we haven’t listed, the score is lower than it should be. Reach out and let us know.
Extend your happy hour window
Duration points scale with how long the deals run. A happy hour that runs 4+ hours earns full Duration points.
Add more days
Frequency points scale with days per week. Adding a weekend happy hour, or an all-day Sunday deal, moves the needle.
Offer both food and drink specials
Venues with only drink specials earn half the Deal Breadth points. Even one solid food deal doubles that component.
Deepen the deals
Deal Value rewards real, listed discounts. Half-price apps, 2-for-1s, dollars-off, and clear low prices beat vague specials — and make sure your prices are actually listed, because specific pricing scores higher than none.
Highlight your amenities
Patio, dog-friendly, parking, live music, and kid-friendly each add points. If you have them and we haven’t listed them, tell us.
Help us get your listing right
We try to reach out to every venue and verify hours, specials, and amenities ourselves — but with hundreds of happy hours across the Twin Cities, some of that takes time. Owners, managers, bartenders, and regulars are all welcome to help: if you spot something missing or out of date, use the “Suggest an edit” button on any venue’s page and tell us what’s changed. We review every submission, verify it, and the score updates automatically as soon as the listing does.
Updating your information is always free — it is never tied to paid listings, and no venue is ever charged to have an accurate score.
